Namibia’s Tourism Minister Appoints Members of Supervisory Board
Frankfurt, 24. August 2007. The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) has a new CEO: Digu//Naobeb will take over the position from Gideon Shilongo with immediate effect. Willem Konjore, Namibia’s Minister for Environment and Tourism, announced the replacement yesterday.
Digu//Naobeb is well known at the Namibia Tourism Board. Born in Namibia in 1970, he has been working for the Board since 2001. For many years, he held the position as Strategic Executive, Industry Services. Following the resignation of Gideon Shilongo in February, //Naobeb took over the interim management. Besides the position of the CEO, the tourism minister also appointed the five members of the Supervisory Board. The CEO was appointed for a period of five years and the members of the Supervisory Board for three years.
Gideon Shilongo changed his position in February, leaving the Namibia Tourism Board to take up a new challenge in the management of Namibia Breweries. Shilongo has shaped the work of the Namibia Tourism Board immensely. Among his notable achievements are the introduction of quality standards and registration in Namibia as well as a study about the macroeconomic relevance of the tourism sector.

The Nambia Tourism Board was established in 2001 aiming at developing tourism in Namibia on national and international levels. Sustainable and environmentally responsible development of the fast growing tourism sector – the third largest sector in the country by now – has always been the focus of NTB`s work.
